Pure Zinc Reviews
Loved by 47,000+ customers
“Far better than expected! I love that it's kinder to skin, no harsh chemicals, inclusive for sensitive skins, non clogging, safer for animals in the sea, and love that it actually works and straight away!”
“I suffer from rosacea and am particularly sensitive to the sun. It is hard to find a good, natural SPF50 that is cruelty-free and vegan. This ticks all the boxes. My skin looked better after the first day using it and now you would hardly know I have a skin problem. Thank you so much for this product!”
“This is the first time I have used your sunscreen and was a bit concerned it might not be suitable as I have extremely sensitive skin. However, I am pleased to say that I have had no reaction from it. It goes on easily and a little goes a long way. I consider it to be very good value for money and feel confident it is protecting my skin and as importantly is completely natural. Thank you so much.”
aussie made
mineral sun cream for everyone.
Pure Zinc is Sun Zapper's complete mineral sunscreen ecosystem. Built on a single, proven foundation: 25% non-nano zinc oxide, we've created 7 distinct formulas, each engineered for a specific life stage, skin type, or need. From newborns to mature skin, from sensitive complexions to active athletes, there's a Pure formula designed just for you.
No chemicals. No compromise. Just Aussie made, pure mineral protection that works for your skin, and respects our oceans.
- Suitable from 6 months
- Non-nano zinc, no chemical sun filters
there is A PURER WAY.
Chemical sunscreen is everywhere, and everywhere it goes, harmful residues follow. When you swim, it ends up in oceans, bleaching coral reefs. When you apply it, it absorbs into your bloodstream. When you use it on babies and children, you're exposing their developing bodies to synthetic filters with unknown long-term effects.
At Sun Zapper we've had enough of traditional sunscreen, it is unfortunately everywhere you look these days. People and our planet deserve better, and that is the reason our Pure Zinc range exists.
FAQ
Mineral sunscreen questions
What is mineral sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreen uses mineral filters, such as zinc oxide, that sit on top of your skin and reflect and scatter UV. Our Pure Zinc creams use 25% non-nano zinc oxide as their only sun filter, for broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
Is mineral sunscreen better than chemical sunscreen?
Both protect you when they’re used properly. People choose mineral sunscreen because it starts working as soon as it’s on, it’s often gentler on sensitive skin, and it avoids chemical filters like oxybenzone and octinoxate. The best sunscreen is the one you’ll apply generously and reapply.
What does non-nano zinc oxide mean?
Non-nano means the zinc oxide particles are larger than the nano range of 1 to 100 nanometres. Non-nano zinc stays on the surface of your skin, where it does its job.
Will it leave a white cast?
Our untinted Pure Zinc creams rub in clear. If you’d like a little coverage, try Tinted Face SPF 30 or Anti-Ageing Tinted SPF 30.
Is it safe for babies and children?
Kids SPF 50 and Baby SPF 30 are made for children over 6 months. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun, and use clothing, hats and shade alongside sunscreen for everyone.
How water resistant are Pure Zinc creams?
80 minutes. Reapply straight after swimming, towelling or sweating, and at least every 2 hours.
Should I choose SPF 30 or SPF 50?
Both are high protection. SPF 30 filters about 97% of UVB and SPF 50 about 98%. Choose SPF 50 for long days outside, and our SPF 30 creams for everyday face wear and babies.
How much sunscreen should I use?
More than most people think. As a guide, use about 2 teaspoons for your head, arms and neck, and about 2 tablespoons for your whole body in swimwear.
Why do you call Pure Zinc reef safe?
Our Pure Zinc creams use zinc oxide as their only sun filter, with no oxybenzone or octinoxate, which are linked with coral damage. There’s no official reef-safe standard, so that’s exactly what we mean when we use the term.
Guide
Mineral sunscreen: a quick guide
Everything you need to choose a mineral sunscreen, and to get the protection on the label.
What is mineral sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreens, sometimes called physical sunscreens, use mineral filters that sit on top of your skin and reflect and scatter UV. There are two: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide covers both UVA, the rays linked with skin ageing, and UVB, the rays that cause sunburn.
Every cream in our Pure Zinc range uses 25% non-nano zinc oxide as its only sun filter. Because it sits on the skin rather than being absorbed, it starts protecting as soon as it’s on.
Mineral vs chemical sunscreen
Chemical sunscreens use synthetic filters that are absorbed into the skin, where they absorb UV. They’re usually thin and easy to rub in. Mineral sunscreens reflect and scatter UV from the surface of the skin.
People choose mineral for a few reasons: it’s often gentler on sensitive skin, there’s no wait before it works, and it avoids filters like oxybenzone and octinoxate. The old downside was a thick white finish. Our untinted Pure Zinc creams are made to rub in clear.
What does non-nano zinc oxide mean?
Nano particles are between 1 and 100 nanometres across. Non-nano zinc oxide is made of larger particles, so it stays on the surface of your skin. All our Pure Zinc creams use non-nano zinc oxide.
Which one should I choose?
For everyday face and body, start with Pure Zinc SPF 50, our best seller, which also comes in a 240g family tube. For children over 6 months, choose Kids SPF 50 or the gentler Baby SPF 30.
For your face under make-up, try Tinted Face SPF 30 or Anti-Ageing Tinted SPF 30. If you get breakouts, Non-Comedogenic SPF 50 is lightweight and fragrance free. Out walking or camping? Mosquito Repellent SPF 50 adds citronella oil.
Mineral sunscreen for kids and babies
Children burn easily and spend more time outside, so they need sunscreen they’ll let you put on. Our Kids and Baby creams are fragrance free and made for children over 6 months. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun.
For faces, noses and ears, a zinc stick is quicker than cream on a wriggly child. See our kids sunscreen guide for more.
How to apply mineral sunscreen
Most people use too little. As a guide, use about 2 teaspoons for your head, arms and neck, and about 2 tablespoons for your whole body in swimwear. Apply to dry skin and rub in until it disappears.
Pure Zinc creams are 80 minutes water resistant. Reapply straight after swimming, towelling or sweating, and at least every 2 hours. Use shade, a hat and clothing too, especially in the middle of the day.
What we mean by reef safe
There’s no official reef-safe test, so we’ll be specific. Our Pure Zinc creams use zinc oxide as their only sun filter, and contain no oxybenzone or octinoxate, two chemical filters linked with coral damage.
ALL PURE ZINC IS REEF SAFEwhat does it mean to be reef safe?
Being reef safe means our sun creams are formulated without the harsh chemicals known to harm coral reefs and marine life. Traditional sunscreens often contain ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which contribute to coral bleaching—a process that stresses and can ultimately kill coral. Our pure zinc range are mineral-based formulas that use non-nano zinc oxide, a natural UV blocker that sits on top of your skin to reflect harmful rays rather than absorb them. This gentle, physical protection keeps your skin safe while ensuring no toxic residues wash off into the ocean. By choosing a reef safe sun cream, you’re helping protect vibrant coral ecosystems and the thousands of marine species that call them home.
